Clarington real estate: homes for sale and what they sold for

Local notes

Clarington is the municipality east of Oshawa that takes in Courtice, Bowmanville, Newcastle, Orono and a lot of farmland. People move here for newer homes, bigger lots, and prices that are usually below Whitby and Ajax for the same house.

Getting to Toronto: Highway 401 runs along the south through all three urban communities. Highway 418 connects the 401 near Courtice to the 407. There is no GO train yet; the nearest station is Oshawa GO, and the Lakeshore East extension to Bowmanville has been approved with stations planned at Courtice and Bowmanville.

Ontario Power Generation's Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, on the lake between Courtice and Bowmanville, is the largest employer, and the site of the first small modular reactor project in Canada. Lakeridge Health Bowmanville is the local hospital.

Bowmanville has a true downtown on King Street. Courtice runs together with east Oshawa. Newcastle is a village with a marina at the Port of Newcastle. Orono and the north are rural.
