Oshawa real estate: homes for sale and what they sold for

Local notes

Oshawa is the largest city in Durham Region and the one with the widest spread of prices. The south end near the lake and the older central neighbourhoods have the most affordable detached homes in the region. North of Taunton Road, around Ontario Tech University and Durham College, almost everything was built after 2005.

Getting to Toronto: Oshawa GO on the Lakeshore East line at Bloor Street and Thornton Road, and Highway 401 along the south of the city. Highway 407 crosses the north end with links at 412 and 418, which changed the commute for the northern neighbourhoods.

Lakeridge Health Oshawa is the region's main hospital. The university and college campus on Simcoe Street North is the biggest employer cluster north of the 401, with General Motors and the Oshawa assembly plant to the south.

What buyers ask about: the difference between the north and south, how close a street is to the 407, and whether a bungalow in a central neighbourhood is a better buy than a new townhouse in the north. The answer depends on the budget and the commute, and the comparables settle it.
